UGLICH
The
name of the little settlement of Uglich first appeared in
the Russian history chronicles in the year of 937. The word
"ugol" means "corner", and the city of
Uglich is located where the Volga river turns. While on a
walking tour of the city you will visit the famous museum
of Russian Vodka and taste this traditional Russian beverage.
Lots of excursions will amuze you - Museum of Spirits and
Superstitions, "Library of Russian Vodka", museum
of Valenki.
In
the Orthodox countries, as well as all over Europe, people
celebrated the holy day of St. John the Baptist. In Russia
this holiday is called Ivan Kupala's Day. Festivities include
a masquerade, remembering the dead, daisy-chain making, water-nymph
dancing, fortune-telling using wreaths, ancient rituals, witches’
coven, games, treasure-hunting, protective spells, leaping
over fire, grass sack fighting.
